New sample album | Laura & Shane | The Columbia Tower Club

I’m so excited to share some photos of my new sample album from Laura & Shane’s wedding this fall! It’s absolutely stunning and it’s HUGE. 80 pages of brilliant images are perfectly bound with cork end paper in the front and in the back. The cover and matching slip case are a very soft black leather with blind imprinting. It’s stunning, but simple enough that their images are what stand out the most. Very cool!

Annie Griffiths Belt

If you like good stories, Annie Griffiths Belt has enough to go around. You can hear her words and see her stunning images on a great new slide show by her and National Geographic. Annie talks about how she she captured many of her photographs from all over the world. If you read the magazine, you will recognize many pictures. Annie is an amazing photographer and is extremely humble. It does take a couple of minutes to load, but it’s well worth your time!

In 1986-87 Annie was a visiting professor at my old school Ohio University. She also worked with my great uncle, George F. Mobley, a staff photographer for 33 years at National Geographic.

I made this photograph of this dashing young lad at a recent Seattle wedding. Weddings can be a great place to make killer images of children. One of my favorite things about shooting weddings is that there is just so much to photograph. All you have to do is let people be themselves and great moments seem to happen all around.

For all of the photography fans out there make sure you check out APAD on a regular basis. It’s a great site founded by photojournalist Melissa Lyttle. It showcases a new image every day. Many of the members are newspaper and magazine photojournalists. There are a lot of great photos that make you look twice.

Super Bowl

I know the Super Bowl doesn’t have much to do with wedding photojournalism, but hey, it’s Wednesday and this is a really cool little segment on what it’s like as a photographer covering the game. It’s by the photo agency, Reuters. You most likely see Reuters photos every day. You’re going to need fast internet to check it out, but it’s worth the time. Especially if you like football!

To a transplant from California, Seattle’s weather can seem a little dreary this time of year. But when I start to see too much gray, I remember that rain can fall a little harder in other parts of the world. During a 5 week photojournalism field school in Scotland, it rained for 4 weeks! But I guess that’s why the Scots have a drinking problem…just kidding!

“Every summer many Scots compete in the Highland Games. They fight for titles in everything from the caber toss to tug of war. For many, these games are no laughing matter. The agony of this competitor in Perth, Scotland sums up what the games are about.” – Lucas

Wednesday can seem like the longest day of the week. To help you get through your day I will be sending occasional photographs via my e-mail news letter.
